Ankara, 23 May 2025 : The Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Somalia, H.E. Abdirahman Yusuf Omar (Al-Adala), along with a delegation he is leading on a working visit to Turkey focused on experience-sharing, met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Prof. Burhanettin Duran, at his office.The meeting was also attended by the Director General of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and senior officials from the Directorate of Communications at the Presidency of Turkey.
The meeting, which was also attended by the Somali Ambassador to Turkey, H.E. Fathudin Ali Mohamed, focused on strengthening the ties between the two brotherly nations. Discussions emphasized enhancing people-to-people connections and combating propaganda and misinformation that target the deep-rooted fraternal relationship between Somalia and Turkey.
Deputy Minister of Information, H.E. Abdirahman Al-Adala, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Turkey for hosting the delegation and for creating a high-level experience-sharing environment that enhances bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of information and media.
“We are pleased with the warm welcome we received here. We held fruitful meetings and engaging workshops, and visited some of Turkey’s major media institutions, which are among the strongest globally, as well as the HAVELSAN defense Factory technology manufacturing facility. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Government of Turkey in general, and in particular to the Directorate of Communications at the Presidency and the other institutions we met with,” said Deputy Minister Al-Adala.
The Deputy Minister added that media cooperation between the two countries is especially important at this time, and that Somalia stands to benefit from Turkey’s experience in modernizing media, shaping public perception, and countering disinformation and misinformation.
Prof. Burhanettin Duran, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, thanked the delegation led by the Somali Deputy Minister of Information for their visit to Türkiye and the experience-sharing meetings they held with Turkish media institutions.
“The two countries share deep-rooted relations based on brotherhood and friendship. Media cooperation is a new avenue we wish to strengthen, as both nations face common challenges such as misinformation, disinformation, modernization of media, and the impact of social media. We are committed to further reinforcing our longstanding relationship,” said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The delegation led by Deputy Minister Al-Adala included the Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Abdirisak Ali Ibrahim the Government Spokesperson and Director of Communications at the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Farhan Mohamed Jimale the Director of Media and Public Relations at the Presidency, Mr. Mohamed Adam Dugoow the Strategic Communication Director at the Ministry of Information, Mr. Abdishakur Ali Ahmed and the Director of Radio Mogadishu, Mr. Abdifitah Dahir Jeite,The Head of Media Relations at the Presidency, Mr. Abdirisak Jama Elmi, along with senior advisors from the Strategic Communication Unit at the Presidency, Mr. Abduslaan Ahmed Aato and Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi Abukar Dhaley, who are part of the Office of the President, also visited the Directorate of Communications at the Turkish Presidency, the Anadolu News Agency, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), and the HAVELSAN Factory,which specializes in manufacturing defense equipment.
